My first job out of law school, in 1999, was working for the San Diego District Attorney’s office in the child support division. I was responsible for litigating child support cases on behalf of the county.
If you are curious what your child support payment would be, the link I’ve included before can give you a good estimate. Basically, child support is calculated using both parents’ income and the time share percentage. Certain deductions are allowed by the court, such as health insurance and union dues.
Often the hardest thing to realize about a child support case is that the child support order really depends on the custody order. Often to reduce a large child support order, you need to first change your custody order.
This is the link to the state of California’s child support calculator: https://childsupport.ca.gov/guideline-calculator/
If you have any questions after, feel free to call the office at 619-476-1291 for a consulation.
